DAY 2 - A FAMILY FEAST
I enjoyed going out today and enjoyed the food again. I definitely enjoyed the family meal as I enjoyed seeing how the French live. They had a nice house and they don’t always have what they prepared us. Sometimes they don’t have a starter. What surprised me was that we were allowed to call them by their first name. Also, I loved the way they ate with all the different food and they seem to have more food.

The pottery with Pascaline was really good fun because I hadn’t done it for years and it was nice making a wild animal and getting my hands into the clay. The talk about the cuisine was new and exciting, I found out that the food is very fresh and cooked from lots of vegetables – it is very tasty.
Looking around the gratte-ciel was interesting to touch and feel. I had never been there before. It was good fun going into all the different rooms. It was nice being out and about in town.
In the evening the family meal was really really nice. We had nice food and the family was very welcoming and homely. Getting there on the metro was great. It was good to speak French with the family and to be understood! We had salmon, rice, ratatouille and chocolate cake for dessert.

Today was less fast paced than Monday. In the CDI we tried to see what sites we were allowed to go on. Apparently, the French are a lot more strict about Internet access than RNC. We found out in the afternoon that Lyon food is based on the people who lived in Lyon for instance the farmers. It was interesting to find out about the way the food of Lyon has developed and why it has developed like that.
In the evening we went to a family meal which was long to get to as it was ‘outside Lyon’. However, when we got there it was very enjoyable. We had ratatouille, bread and wine and tried fromage blanc.

I enjoyed having a look at the basket-making. Maybe we should have more things like that in England. We had lunch in the college refectory. There we have three or four courses, at home we only have one. That was very interesting. I think I prefer the English way of eating though as it’s what I’m used to. We found out a lot about Lyonnais food.
I really enjoyed going on the metro – it was so quick! In the evening we went to Sylvie’s I really liked the veal – I had never had it before.

I really enjoyed the Gratte-Ciel, looking at the architecture and the theatre. It was interesting that it was all social housing, despite being stunning and well-looked after. The flats were small and quaint but they were well equipped. I thought it was very much like ancient Greek roman style with all the pillars.
